Position Summary:
The Recruiter is a full-time, on-site position responsible for leading recruitment and outreach initiatives for volunteer firefighters and EMTs. The primary mission of this role is to attract, engage, and onboard new members to ensure a sustainable and diverse volunteer team that supports BVFD’s mission to serve the community. The Recruiter serves as the main point of contact for prospective members and represents the department in the absence of other leadership. This is a grant-funded position through the federal SAFER program; employment is contingent upon formal acceptance of the grant and subject to funding limitations and the grant period of performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies and marketing campaigns to attract qualified volunteer applicants.
- Conduct outreach to schools, community groups, and partner organizations; coordinate participation in career fairs and public events.
- Manage the full applicant process, including inquiries, applications, reference checks, interviews, ride-alongs, and orientations.
- Maintain an applicant database and prepare regular reports for BVFD leadership.
- Design professional recruitment materials and manage social media and website content to promote volunteer opportunities.
- Stay current on best practices in volunteer recruitment and fire service trends through training, workshops, and professional networks.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s operations and ensure optimal performance.
Qualifications:
- Experience in recruitment, marketing, community outreach, or volunteer coordination; public safety or nonprofit experience preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, social media, and digital marketing tools.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative without direct in-person supervision.
