On August 19th, during the monthly BVFD Membership Meeting, Fire Chief Ryman and BVFD President Bulla proudly announced the appointment of Firefighter / EMT Akil Brooks to the BVFD Board of Directors.

Akil has been a dedicated Member since June of 2017. He started as an EMS Member, achieved his EMT and Aide status swiftly, and by December of 2018 achieved Driver status.

Recognizing the needs of the Department, Akil then took Fire I class in September of 2019, and Fire II class in November of 2019. He frequently still offers to drive the Ambulance, while also staffing fire apparatus.

Akil also serves as a member of the Recruitment and Retention Committee and often works with new Members on orientation, drills, and personal development. Akil offers the Board of Directors a vast myriad of Membership and community perspectives. We are fortunate to be able to add his counsel to fill a current vacancy on the Board.
