EMT Johnston becomes Charge Aide
The BVFD proudly announces the advancement of EMT Johnston, who earned her Officer in Charge (OIC) status on the BVFD Ambulance in March 2026.
Sabrina joined BVFD in October 2024 and immediately began working toward obtaining her Charge status. She dedicated many hours to rigorous classroom instruction and independent training to achieve this significant milestone, all while maintaining a healthy work–life balance.
Even after completing the required coursework, additional steps were necessary before taking charge of a BVFD Ambulance. EMT Johnston successfully completed a series of comprehensive written and practical in-station examinations. Following these evaluations, she rode in the “Charge” position under the supervision of an experienced Charge EMT for a series of evaluated calls.
This process is designed to ensure that EMTs are able to demonstrate the knowledge, leadership, and decision-making abilities required in the field before being entrusted with the responsibility of leading an ambulance crew in any situation.
The BVFD proudly congratulates EMT Johnston on completing this rigorous process and earning her Charge status.
