The Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) is proud to announce that two of its dedicated members took home top honors at last night’s Montgomery County Volunteer Fire-Rescue Association (MCVFRA) awards ceremony.

Nominated by the BVFD Fire Chief Michael Ryman, these awards serve as a well-deserved recognition of the outstanding service, leadership, and dedication these two volunteers bring to the department.

Firefighter II Cameron Brown – 2025 MCVFRA EMT of the Year Firefighter II Cameron Brown was awarded the 2025 MCVFRA EMT of the Year. Since joining the BVFD in September 2020, Brown has consistently demonstrated remarkable dedication and has been one of the department’s top responders each year.

Known for leading by example, Brown arrives for duty on time and fully prepared, frequently picking up extra shifts and additional duties to ensure coverage and consistency across the BVFD. Over the past year, he completed nearly 1,000 hours of operational staffing on Ambulance 715 and responded to 248 calls for service. Beyond his exceptional operational response, Brown dedicated significant time to mentoring the BVFD EMT students and training new driver candidates, a process imperative to effective staffing. He also recently completed his Firefighter 1 and 2 courses and is beginning his service on the BVFD Board of Directors.

Megan Meacham – 2026 MCVFRA Administrative Member Award Megan Meacham received the 2026 MCVFRA Administrative Member Award, reflecting her status as a true administrative powerhouse who leads by example. Joining the department in December 2019, Meacham has earned more than 50 LOSAP points every full year of her membership. She has served on the Board of Directors since 2023 and currently acts as Corporate Secretary, demonstrating reliability and attention to detail that keeps the department operating effectively and professionally.

Meacham’s leadership extends across multiple critical initiatives. She previously served as Treasurer of the Membership Fund and actively engages fellow Associate members to ensure they remain active, valued contributors. By encouraging participation, she helps maintain a strong connection between the Associate Members and the Board of Directors. Additionally, she serves as Chair of the Open House Committee, coordinating the BVFD’s largest community outreach event. She also provides leadership for the Scholarships Committee.

Further demonstrating her selflessness and compassion, Meacham completed Crisis Intervention training to become a vital member of the BVFD Peer Support Team. Her visible impact extends directly into the community, where she is almost always present at events to promote the fire service, build greater awareness, and strengthen public safety trust. The BVFD is incredibly fortunate to have such outstanding leaders in its ranks, and we congratulate both members on their monumental achievements.
