BVFD’s 2026 Open House Brings the Community Together
The Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department’s 2026 Open House was a tremendous success, bringing community members together for a day of beautiful weather, engaging demonstrations, outstanding performances, and family-friendly activities.
The event featured performances by the Blake High School Drum Line and Paint Branch High School NJROTC, whose participation added excitement and energy to the day. Guests also enjoyed delicious food from Catalyst Hot Dogs and special appearances by Smokey Bear, Marshall, and the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Mounted Unit. JdoubleU Events added to the festivities with a 360 photo booth, giving attendees another fun way to capture memories from the day.
Fire safety education remained a central part of the event. The BVFD’s Fire Safety Poster Contest received more than 100 entries from students and participants at Galway, Burtonsville Elementary School, Praisner Recreation Center, Snowden Ridge, Rock Creek, and more. Their artwork was displayed in a dedicated gallery hall, celebrating the creativity of our young community members while reinforcing the importance of fire safety.
Attendees also had the opportunity to witness a live auto extrication demonstration led by Chief Ryman, Lt. Knight, MFF Flores, and FF Davis. The demonstration offered a closer look at the tools, techniques, and coordinated teamwork involved in freeing occupants from vehicles following serious crashes. Vice President Bulla served as emcee, keeping the audience engaged with interactive trivia and prizes throughout the demonstration.
From meeting first responders and exploring emergency equipment to enjoying performances, activities, and special guests, visitors had opportunities to learn more about the BVFD and the services we provide to our community.
The BVFD extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who attended, as well as the performers, participating schools and programs, community partners, guest organizations, and volunteers who helped make the day possible. Special thanks go to BVFD photographers Tom Manuccia and Joy Washington for capturing the excitement, smiles, and memorable moments throughout the event.
We are grateful for the continued support of our community and everyone who contributed their time, talent, and resources to make this event such a success. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for future events!
